Derek Pickering

It is with great sadness that our club has to announce the death of Derek Pickering.

The Club has lost a loyal and longstanding servant with the passing of Derek Pickering, after a short illness, on the morning of Friday August 3rd 2018. Derek was aged seventy-eight.  He played for the Club in his early teens under the Captaincy of his father, Jim Pickering, and was Captain himself for two spells, from 1964 to 1966 and then again 1970 to 1972. He was an Honorary Life Vice President following on from his role as President of The Club from 2010 until 2015. A previous role, in latter years, was as Chairman of Youth Cricket where he did so much to amalgamate the Senior and Youth sections of the Club.  Derek was a wonderful top order batmen, an off- spin bowler, and a superb fielder, especially in the covers and in the gully.

The Club's heartfelt sympathies are extended to his wife, Deedee, to his daughters Michelle and Karen, and to his four grandchildren.  He will be much missed by his family, and all his many friends at St James's.
